Where does saved info go for rank/loadout etc? A friend tells me Steam Cloud manages it all but its too much of a risk, I doubt I'll play again if I start at rank 1 since I only play casually as it is. Googling anything to do with save files for MW2 only brings back bazzillion forum posts about hacking 70.

Yeah its stored in the Steam cloud.
I just did a fresh install of steam & redownloaded MW2. Before I had copied over my players folder for game saves & config files I loaded up the MP to check. All the rank & loadout info was there but stuff like res & keyboard config was not.
