Running 3800x default on an Aorus b450i board, had it up and running for a couple days now, and compared to my previous 2700x it's an absolute fireball. Touching 85c in games, boosting to around 4350 then dropping clocks to 4150, it's on the stock cooler and its also ramping like a crackhead screaming for a fix.

Everywhere Ive looked 80c+ appears to be normal, for clarification it is an ITX build with a 2080s in the machine so plenty of heat created but gpu only hits 75c max, never had a cpu hotter than a GPU.

Looking for reassurance I won't kill the thing at these temps

if your using the included cooler then temps will be high, my 3900x used to run like a super nova on the included cooler so i switched it out and ended up water cooling instead, for extended use I'd say don't go above 75 degrees for the longevity of the chip, there are numerous air coolers that do a far better job than the bundled cooler, hell if you feel up to it a 240/280mm aio cpu cooler would be the best before spend the big bucks on custom solutions.

one thing to note the stock voltage of all 3rd gen CPU's is quite high out of the box usually in the 1.4v region you could try a balanced power plan profile in windows to see if that alleviates the temp problem, if not I'd say a better cooler is needed, plus good airflow in your case too.
for perspective my 3900x is overclocked to 4.4ghz with a manual voltage of 1.3325v under a custom 360mm loop and never exceeds 75 degrees under heavy cpu load, gaming wise it sits mid 60's which is perfect
