Hi,
I'm after buliding meself a new pc.
I've been out of the game for 4 years now.
And would like a little help.

I have a buget of £1000 - £1200

What i cannot make my mind up with is

What

Motherboard & Ram

Here's what i will be getting to go with the above.

Samsung SM-226BW 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

XFX GeForce 7600 GT Fatal1ty Video Card

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3750640AS SATA-II 16MB Cache

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80GB ST380815AS SATA-II 8MB Cache

I'm gonna duel boot with XP & Vista on the 80gb Seagate.

I have 3 Pioneer ide roms which i would like to add also.

So some advice on the Motherboard and Ram would be great.

Thanks.

Couldn't fit a quad core and 22" Widescreen monitor into that, but you can get the 6600 and a 640MB 8800GTS which would be better than a 7600GT for sure. As you've got 3 IDE ROM drives, go for the P5N-E SLI, as it gives you 2 IDE channels, whereas boards like the Gigabyte only have 1 IDE channel. If I were you I wouldn't get the 80GB drive, I'd just partition the 500GB one, but that's up to you. The memory specced will overclock very well.

Here's the spec I just made up - within your budget.

The only issue is that you would be limited to two IDE devices unless you decided to get a PCI or PCI-e PATA host card.

However it has a quad core processor, very overclockable RAM, a new chipset motherboard which should be highly future-proof, the best case, an 8800 series GPU with sufficient memory for the resolution of the monitor, a fantastic power supply, and support for up to 8 SATA devices.
