This is a first time build for me. Pretty much a budget machine though I hope I've left space for improvements in the future. Do I need to add a heatsink or will the stock cooler do? Anything else I should be adding? Do I really need a modular psu or could I save a few quid with a regular psu? (if so which one?). Any areas where spending a little more money would give me a lot more? Likewise any areas where I've spent too much for little benefit?

Do you need a graphics card ? operating system ? The stock cooler will be fine for general use. If you wanted to overclock then you would need a 'k' chip and then you would need a better cooler.
What is the pc being used for ?

spent less on the case, and more on the inside bits, faster cpu, will OC well if you get a better heatsink and fan later, better m/b and also a better psu, bigger screen and some good cheap ram, yours OC's better tbh

option 2, used your ram as if you do want to OC it, will be better in the long run for extra few quid.....

I know the tj08-e is expensive but I would highly highly recommend it. Its a great case and I'll keep it for years.

It not much taller than a prodigy and can house big air coolers like the D14 and with sone modding a H100.

3570k is the way to go.

Do you have a graphics card already?

The machine is for the kids. Light use to start with but it will get heavier as they learn more. I've already got a copy of win7. No graphics card but I figured I could add one later. I thought the only benefit of the 3570 was the graphics. What is the point of paying more for graphics when a graphics card will do a much better job? Ah, I've just noticed it is for over clocking.

If I start with the stock cooler is it awkward to change to a different cooler. I quite like the look of the cooler master 612s.

Could always go down the A10 route?

Id go for an A10, but leave the 6670 and invest in a 7850 (1gb/2gb) when/if you can. Im sure they'll be nearer £100 soon.

I don't think the investment in the 6670 is worth it.

No your right. The 6670 is the only card to hyrid xfire with the A10. Though the 7850 is twice as good as that hybrid xfire setup alone.

Too be fair the A10 should be able to handle mist games easy at medium. Then if the OP wants to upgrade (for better graphics) he can add a 7850 easy..

That'd be my plan.

Thanks for all the help. I've gone for the 3570k with the p8z77-m pro. I'm still undecided about the heatsink but I'm definitely not going to use the stock one.

Apart from that the only thing left to decide on is keyboard and mouse.
