Ok, finally done it - took the plunge and bought myself a Macbook Pro.

Couldn't really say no, it's a 2.2Ghz Santa Rosa machine as a refurb, as I couldn't justify the extra £200 WITH academic discount to get a new 2.4Ghz model that it barely any faster.

Wait and see how I get on and how this arrives!

How long does it usually take to deliver if anybody knows?

Sorry to be a pain but... how much did it cost?
Edit: The £929? Some really tempting prices, i mean there's a macbook for £639! 2.2 Ghz, 1 GB ram, 120 GB HD, super drive etc..

Ah yes, good question, something that I did consider. One real reason why I went for the Pro over the MacBook is for the screen size, it's just not quite big enough to work with for me, but after Quidco the price comes down to just over £900 - still not too bad I think. Another reason for the Pro is the build quality of the Pro over the MacBook, which is ten times better - I find the MacBooks to be a bit cheap looking (except the black which is a rip off anyway).

Even after HE discount, I can't justify £200 for MultiTouch and an extra 200mhz. Even if I don't like this, I can return it within 14 days

Although it may have sounded it, i wasn't digging at you regarding getting the Pro over standard Macbook. Thinking of getting a Macbook for Uni.. hmm.. just to steal a thread but.. am I right in thinking with the Macbooks Plastic Shell its more durable and better at taking bangs and being moved around then its older sibling the Macbook Pro? - which I presume will dent.

I see your point, but as Dr Jones says, either bang results in one problem or another anyway - moral of the story is don't harm your macbook

Ok, all arrived nicely today.

Impressions so far, very good actually. For a refurb, it's absolutely immaculate, you wouldn't even be able to tell that anybody had used it.

Spec wise:

15.4" Matte Screen
2.2Ghz (Santa Rosa)
120Gb HDD
2Gb RAM
nVidia 8600M

At the moment just taking time out to get used to it really. I use a Mac every now and again at work, but owning one is completely different to using one because you have to.

I think it will def take me a few weeks to get used to it, but so far i'm very happy. I'm even happier at the fact that the screen is perfect (I'm the most unlucky person when it comes to screens).

Does anyone have any tips to make the transition a bit easier?
