I've got an E6600 with a Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI mobbo and i'm hearing so many people are getting 3.6ghz "no probs" as they call it.

I've upped the cpu voltage to 1.400v or just over (its showing as 1.392 in cpuz). I've set the fsb to 1333.3mhz and the multiplier is still x9. I have tried it at higher fsb and i can get it to do about 3.2 if i up the voltage further but i'm a little reluctant to keep putting it higher and higher. Is there something obvious I am doing wrong? like..maybe not overclocking the ram and syncing it somehow? I'm sure there must be something obvious..if anyone can point it out i'll be very grateful. Maybe i just got a bad cpu? or maybe the motherboard sucks for overclocking ?

Not all people get to 3.6GHZ with an E6600 "no probs".

Maybe your CPU just won't overclock to that amount, I know mine won't.

3.6ghz is pretty rare for the e6600. Most crap out just over 3.5ghz.

What cooler are you using? You can go upto 1.5v if you're using decent cooling. More under water.

Cob sorry to jump in on this thread but you say the E6600 crap out at 3.5ghz?

I'm thinking of buying one this week so are they still good chips ir would a E6420 be better suited for overclocking and gaming?

Been using AMD for years so not up tp speed with the Intel chips :(

Thanks in advance ;)

The e6600's extra multiplier still makes it the 'better' chip. Whether it's worth the extra 25 quid is starting to be debatable since the newer e6420 also has 4mb cache.

The newer e6600's are also clocking a little lower than the older ones. Some aren't going over 3.4ghz without lots of vcore. And some of the e6420's are reaching close to the same speeds.

Have a read through the E6320 and E6420 overclocking thread lower down this page to see how they're doing.

TBH I had my mind set on a 6420 then for some reason started looking at the E6600?

Think I'll stick with the plan as I'm seeing good clocks on the 6420 in the other thread as you said.

Thanks mate ;)

My firend has the new 6450 chip and i must recommend it. Its cool (about 45c under load) and clocked to 3.2GHz with no extra vcore. Nice chip i think you will find

6450? Haven't seen them about are they new?

Looks like all new E6600's are struggling, at 1.5V 3.4ghz aint stable on my system, I gotta do 1.55V, 1.7V on the NB which mean I need a better fan and at 3.2Ghz I need 1.45V stable and my temp is 64degrees load.
