I have been looking around for a while for a new desk 2 x 19" crt monitors has bowed my current desk quite badly so I am looking for something quite heavy duty to replace it.

I found a desk that goes by the name of "mezzo" for £199 then at checkout process found out that was minus the VAT & £40 delivery making it not as good a deal as i first thought.

Now this desk was almost perfect apart from the price the colour (in this particular store) wasnt right.

Ideally I want a BIG rectangular desk with a thick top to withstand the weight.

For those of you who don't look up the mezzo it has a 50mm top and its dimensions are 190wx90dx75h which is about spot on for what I want.

Can anyone find a very strong desk for less than this one ?

I was trying to aim for £200, maybe I am being too hopeful.

for a galant you can get a
160x80
120x80
120x60
or a corner left or right 160x120
you should get the T legs as they are a bit more stable but are £25 each! the a legs are not as stable

galant comes in white (cheapest), beech, black brown, oak, medium brown(being discontinued) and birch.

if you got a 160x80, it would be £55 for top, £50 (T legs) or £35 (a legs) and then i think around £20 for the frame.

so about £120

the Jerker is 160x80 and already has t legs on it, you can buy a drawer unit unit for £25 to sit under the top.
the jerker im sure comes in black brown and beech only.

the jerker is £70 (i think off the top of my head)

hope that helps.

PS thats ikea knowledge for you!

sorry can I be even more awkward and tell you now that I need home delivery as I don't own a van to go and pick up a great big desk from Ikea.

Ikea Jerker here, had it years, still going strong after having a 17 CRT sat on it until last month when I bought the Dell 2407 :D

Great desk.

Ikea is flat pack so as long as you have a car with fold down seats it'll fit fine, no need for a van !!

sorry for hijack but im very intrested in the Jerker and i was wondering as there is 2 types which one everyone has got as i am intrested in knowing some dimensions of the one with the shelf as they are not on the site, also do you get those metal plate thingys that clip on the side to put all your crap on like a laptop or phone.

all i want to know is the distance beetwwen the tabletop and the shelp so that i can fit my tower on there which is 47cm.

I don't even have a boot because its full of stereo equipment

and my sub box is heavily bolted in.

[EDIT]
just been on the Ikea website and for 2007 they are trialling online shopping.
I have to laugh though because they make it sound lik eits a new invention the way they are talking about it and explaining it.
lol

The distance between the tabletop and the shelf can be whatever you like :)
The desk support has holes so you can fit the tabletop or shelf any height you want, My shelf is at 53cm from the tabletop and could go a few cm higher so you should be able to get your pc in no probs.

You can add an extenstion onto the desk for another shelf and mine sits at 90 cm or with the extension you could just have one high up shelf.

The metal plate bits you buy separate and you bolt them on any height you want. I use one to hold my printer.

You can also add a drawer to the desk and at the side a holder for a pc.

Thats the thing I like about this desk if you need a support to hold something you just fire the plates on the sides.

Jerker as standard didn't come with any add on hangers or boxes for below the desk and only came with one upper shelf.
I bought the other at a later date.
Shame they stopped doing the wood effect and went to silver though. :(

Doesn't look too bad though. :D
