Recently sent my ASRock Fatal1ty Z68 Pro Gen3 Motherboard for a BIOS Update, got it back and was so excited to finally be able to get the PC up and running, got it all put together professionally and turned it on.

The Motherboard light didn't show error 55 went through to 4F and then 9A (or A9) and then the PC turned off.

After a few seconds it then restarted and again after about 3-4 seconds turned off again, it does this on a loop constantly. I have taken out every piece and made sure it was all connected correctly, made sure no pins or screws where touching the Motherboard and couldn't find anything.

I took the PC into my local PC shop and they said that they couldn't see anything out of place. We had a chat and came to the conclusion that it seems either the Processor or the Motherboard is faulty.

Now as I sent the Motherboard in for a BIOS Update surely the Motherboard must have been working for them to do this however I am not completely sure. Going to ring tomorrow anyways just wanted to have a quick check to see if anybody had any ideas on what it could be or if it is definitely a faulty processor.

Thanks

It is almost unknown to have faulty cpu. Sounds more like they ether bricked the bios update. Or, your trying to run a ivy cpu, and the bios does not support it.

Indeed. If you didn't change any hardware then everything should have been fine. Why not reinstall the previous bios yourself?

The CPU I have is an Intel Core i7-3770 3.40GHz (Ivybridge).

The reason I cannot reinstall the previous bios is because this is my first every build and I do not know how to properly

One would assume you got the motherboard BIOS updated because the one it shipped with didn't support the Ivy Bridge processor you had purchased with it?

Surely if you got it put together "professionally" they would have made sure it turned on and worked before giving it back. Did a company put it together?

So you get a board which according to the manufacturers website does not support a 3rd generation chip and then you buy an ivybridge chip and send it to someone to help as they say a bios update is all that is required?

Wezo if you can read you can do a bios update. Have faith and read the manual. Let me know how it goes.

well the Motherboard I have can support 3rd gen with the p2.10 BIOS update, I guess i'm going to have to ask when I ring what version they put it on. Also I got the parts separate and then got a computer shop to built it properly for me, obviously they found it didn't work so told me and we agreed best thing to do was to contact Overclockers and see what they say

and yes I sent it back because it had the wrong BIOS

What I don't understand is once the PC shop put the system together for the second time with the correctly flashed motherboard, why in gods name didn't they test it? Seems extremely odd to build a system and not make sure it is fully functional for the customer!

As the post progress has gone further since the BIOS update I'd guess that overclockers used the latest BIOS version and something else is wrong with the system. Did you specify what CPU was going to be used when you contacted OcUK to get it reflashed?

Pull the power cord out of the back, pop the motherboards CMOS battery out for 5 minutes. Put it back in and try to boot the system again.

+1 to that

Took the CMOS battery out for 5 minutes, put it back in and it didn't work. Still turns on after 4-5 seconds turns off and loops.

I also tried it with the graphics card out and the problem still persisted

Tried a single stick of Ram? Is the heatsink firmly attached to the CPU?

What is the last code displayed on the debug LED before it turns off? What code it get stuck on before the update?

So what did you say to OcUK when you sent it back?
