Another PS3 on the way out?

So I've had my japanese PS3 since launch and never had any issues with it, then whilst watching Quantum the other night, the film froze a couple of times towards the end. Not a problem thinks I, it did this way back when I got casino royal, so remembering from before I turned off the internet connection and disabled the media finder. The following night I went to play one of the Bourne films, only to have the system freeze up 40 mins into the film, then today whilst playing Resi 5 the game stopped loading (disc still spinning, but nothing being read) whilst trying to access chapter 2.

The only thing I can think is that the laser is on the way out, buggered if this is the case, as I can't really afford to replace the system for some time.
