I sorted my last problem out, but as it turns out the laptop I bought was rubbish and is going back for a refund.
It was blue screening all the time and noticeably slower than my 6 year old HP.
I have a HP N40L running WHS 2011, it feeds music to Sonos round a few rooms and also Blu-Ray rips to a Dune Duo HD Media Player.
It also feeds music to my Mac Mini which is connected to my Hi-Fi, the Mac Mini is only used for Music playback.
My old Windows laptop is used for day to day browsing, ripping CD's (using dbPoweramp) and mkv's (using MakeMKV), these files are then copied over the network to the WHS.
I use the Remote Desktop Connection on the PC quite a bit as the WHS is headless (moving files around and backups and the like), as I have a couple of WD NAS drives I use for backup.
If I bought a Macbook Pro - can remote connect to the WHS?
Does OSX have it's own version of Remote Desktop Connection - I have the Server dashboard on the Mac Mini, but I never use that, the Remote Connection is faster and would be my preference.
Or do I need another Windows laptop? or would bootcamp be easier/better?
