I need the benefit of your knowledge guys. The question is 8800GTX , yes or no ??

I am currently running a AMD 4000+ clocked to 3.12Ghz , 2 gig ram , 7900GT OC and 2 x 2407 Dell's.

I had already convinced myself that trying to run those Dells at 1600 x 1200 and a decent level of detail with my current GPU was a losing battle. :(

My main concern was that if I bought a 8800GTX would it be bottlenecked by the CPU ?

I am going to do a ground up brand new Kentsfield build in Feb / March and would be puchasing a 8900GTX :D or two hopefully, so the 8800GTX will be staying in my current system. ;)

You have a custom rs6 (raises keys to rs6 as well :D ), so why cheap out on pc parts?

With the clock that you have on your cpu, the bottleneck will be reduced quite a bit, worth it imo

Hmmmm, I think you're in one of those borderline situations. I'm not sure the G80 would give you a massive improvement although I'm sure it would be noticable.

I'd be inclined to hang on till feb/march when you do your new PC to be honest. By the prices may have dropped and with luck you'll have a G80 refresh or ATI R600 to chose from as well.

Few games are bottlenecked by any kind of decent CPU anymore. Especially not by the decent one you have there. If you feel like forking out £500 for the GTX then go for it. Just let me know if you're selling on your 7900GT and for how much ;)

;) Ah a fellow RS6 owner and obviously a man of taste :D

Cheap out on PC parts ?? :p I build once every 2 or 3 years and its usually cutting edge at the time.

I work away from home and want a rig in my flat as well as at home so looking to get a decent gaming rig in both places ;)

Ta for the info, gonna get a evga 8800GTX for my current rig and possibly change over the CPU for a X2 4800 if the opportunity arises :D

*Bears darg in mind for 7900GT OC*
