Spec Check Please

Hi Folks,

I am currently in the process of speccing my new PC to replace my aging Athlon 3200 which is about 5 years old now.

I will use the machine for Games, Office, etc.

I plan on a mild overclock however nothing too extreme as the machine will also be used for business purposes.

I have done a fair bit of research and come up with the following spec:

Any comments on the componants I have chosen?

I already have an alright monitor - Samsung 20" but the rest of the items are needed.

Thanks for your help. :)

Only thing I would ask is if you know any students to cheapen the Windows 7 purchase? I also doubt you'd need the extension cable. Though it might be worth remembering that those drives are OEM and each need a SATA cable if you don't have one lying around.

For gaming, i would get a proper wired keyboard and mouse as wireless doesn't cut the gaming needs. other than that good build.
Would change the hard drive to a 1tb wd black.

I specced the extension cable after reading the reviews of the PSU stating that the supplied item was a bit short for bottom mounting. I didn't want to be in the position of having to delay the build for a £3.50 part.

With the SATA cables - I assumed that some would come with the mobo - I am pretty sure that my last mobo came with some IDE and SATA cables. Can any one advise? Otherwise I'll call OC in the morning.

I take the point about the wired keyboard and mouse, I am going to stick with the wireless as whilst I really like my gaming, I am not any good at FPS and I doubt the wireless will make much difference to my skill. :) Also I tend to play a lot of flightsim and games like CIV so not so important.

Shame they don't to a WD Black in the 1.5TB. I'd like the storage space as I ran out too quickly on my existing machine.

Thanks for the feedback so far. :)

Components all look good to me. I'm just in the process of making a very similar rig. If your thinking of going Xfire in the future may want to change mobo however. I've heard the PCI slots are very close together and it gets very hot with two cards.

Not really planning on xfire although I will give it a little thought.

I have changed the memory in the spec from the Corsair to the Patriot Viper here:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-008-PA&tool=5

Seems to be a little faster (as I understand it - might be wrong), has nice reviews and is £10 cheaper.

I am hoping to keep this PC upgraded regularly to avoid the £1000 hit next time, although everytime I build a PC I say that then end up 4 years down the line and almost all the componants are out of date.

Cheers :)
