Im looking at getting a new pc mainly becuase my pc is starting to tire on the more demanding tasks. The issue of it being a tad loud a night is also starting to tire me ^^.

The computer is use for 3d renderings/CAD which means leaving it on for ages to complete renderings (sometimes overnight so slience is really important). I am also a casual gamer but running a high resolution (1920x1200) means that my current computer which was fine on the older 19" doesnt perform well in those eye candy situations.

My budget is a maximum of £1000 and to inculude the rig and an allowance for windows (not sure if im sticking with the devil i know or the devil i dont.)

I have an audigy 2 which i can use but am unsure as to how much difference a new card would make. I am not a fan of asus motherboards either having had problems with them in the past.

Not having had my eye on the up and coming technology latly, as this computer is not desperate, could wait a few months, is there any new technologies which are worth waiting for beyond the normal updates.

This is the rig i was currently considering (budget still needs some tweeking)

Blimey, that's a huge image, I think you probably need to edit it or simply link to it.

However the system is basically fine there except the Ram requires 2.1v to boot and the motherboard supplies 1.8v by default. It can be changed manually but for simplicities sake it might be better to simply get some G.Skill or Corsair that will boot at 1.8v and costs about the same.

Sorry about image when i shrunk it it was too small, i have redone as a link.

Any comments on the volume of the rig, will it be nearly inaudable with the addition of the fan controler? Any changes/additions that will help reduce the noise?

If you're dead set on building as quiet a pc as possible, you might prefer a case with soft mounts for the hard drive(s). Lian Lis have them for example, although you could always mod something up yourself.

Very minor point, but you could get the Corsair HX620 for a couple of quid less. It's modular, so you will have potentially less cable clutter, and therefore potentially better airflow/lower turbulence. Not sure if that would really make much of a difference in a real world situation though!
