the keyboard I'm using now is giving up after 3 years of faithful service, looking into mechanical keyboards now to replace her.

I like the look of the corsair K line but they are a bit pricey for me at the moment

I need a big enter key and they look like its just a single width enter key, prefer media keys without having to press FN+F1 etc

Not sure on what switch type would be good for me, I like to type and game currently using a simple dome type basic gaming keyboard so something similar to that in terms of feel (No clicky switch just push down, if that makes sense) so I assume red or brown would suit me?

all keyboards we sell are UK layout, so they have the large enter key.

unless it says in the description that it is US layout.

have you read the keyboard guide at the top of the section?

there are two types of switches, linear and tactile. tactile means there is a noticeable actuation feeling half way through the keystroke. brown means there is a bump, blue is a click.

by saying you assume red or brown, this is a good idea as both switches have around 45g of actuation force and feel very similar to use. but brown has a bump feeling and red doesn't as it is linear so the force required to actuate is the same from the top to bottom of the keystroke.

I spent around two years typing on reds and whilst they are possibly the quietest to use [especially for a touch typist] they don't require much actuation force and have a tendency to bottom out. this can of course be rectified a little using keyboard damping orings.

I have recently moved to mx blues again and in honesty i think they work best for me. The only problem I find is recommending them to people is that most people dont want a loud keyboard.

I think that MX Blue with damping orings gives the best all round feel for typing but your mileage may vary.

in my opinion, if you want a feel close to dome typing, the only suggestion i could make is the Novatouch [review here] which has a unique topre switch. very strange to type on for an experienced cherry switch user but once you get used to it the feel is very similar to a membrane keyboard in feeling but with a much more accurate and premium feeling keystroke response.

If you are planning to spend the money on a mechanical keyboard, I urge you to consider more than just the corsair offerings. the CM storm products have brilliant build quality for the money. Ducky offer some more affordable units which are brilliant but just dont have fancy lighting.

quickfire tk - red switch. has a backlight. full size. decent build quality. brilliant VFM

Rapid I - brown switch. andvanced backlighting options. its ten keyless which is nice for gaming as its more ergonomic. one of the best CMStorm cherry mx based boards.

Ducky DK2087S TKL Zero - a nice range of switches. again its TKL so decide based on that but this is the best VFM ducky board on the market right now. build quality is second to none.

spending more than this will essentially put you in the realm of the more expensive £100+ boards which would lead to the corsair boards and more expensive ducky models.

Thanks for the amazing reply, lots to think about here, I like the idea of a tactile feedback what I've done Is put my interest in the mechanical keyboard key test thread and hopefully can base it on what key I like the feel of the most.

I am quite picky and that is why the corsair appealed to me (having the full size with dedicated media keys) but will have to shop around given the corsairs price
