Another "spec me a PSU"

I have two of the Corsair HX series, HX520 and HX620, and are delighted with them. Whisper quiet, which is important to me, and reliable.

I need a PSU for my new Phenom II X6 box:

- 1100T overclocked to 3.7 at default volts
- 8GB RAM
- ATI 3870 (but not used for gaming, even if it would cope today...)
- 3 x hard drives

Normally all 6 cores will be fully loaded or close to it 24/7

I'm after something like the Corsairs above, which of course are no longer produced. Main criteria is a QUIET PSU, and I'd rather over-spec it in terms of wattage so that it is understresed, runs cool and quiet and will last longer. Preferably not uber-expensivee

Grateful for any suggestions :)

Been chuffed with the PSU as in my sig for three years now. Whisper quiet and hasn't missed a beat in all that time.

very OTT for the spec.

tuvoc can't you use one of the hx520/620?

They are running in other machines ;)

theoretically I could use the 620 and then replace the PSU in the other box, but that seems like too much disruption

Yeah 850w is too much, probbaly I'm looking in the range 550-600w, and that is also overkill actually

Looking at these at the moment

XFX Pro 550W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply

Cooler Master GX 550W '80 Plus' Power Supply [RS-550-ACAA-E3]

Need to find some reviews. I want a single 12v rail, I've never bought into split rails, so that rules out some Antec and BeQuiet models.

Funny enough, the Corsair HX-620 was theoretically split rails, although had "Advanced circuitry design that automatically enables power sharing between the triple +12V rails in an event of overload on any single +12V rail". Which to me meant at the time it was actually a single rail under the hood !

Well I went for this:

Antec TruePower New Modular 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply

I did some research, and it doesn't make an iota of difference for my machine whether I have split or single 12v rails. This series has had some brilliant reviews - very low ripple, good efficiency. Plus this is going into an E-ATX case, and I had to avoid anything that might have had short-ish cables.
