Hello everyone. My trusty (read: old) Samsung V20 has lasted me a good couple of years now but I think I'm just about due for an upgrade. I like to play the odd few games on the PC (WoW, Orange Box) but for the most part it's used for emails, browsing the net, research and typing up essays.

I'm looking for a reliable 15" laptop for £500 max. So far I've had a look at the Dell Studio 15 and Acer Aspire 5920. I do prefer the looks of the Dell but I like the idea of having a Blu-Ray drive on the Acer for under £500, which I could hook up to my 32" through HDMI.

Well, I appreciate any other suggestions you guys might have. :)

I've been looking around a bit and found an Acer 5930 for £580, a small stretch but here are the specs:

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo TP7350 / 2.26 GHz
RAM 3 GB DDR2 SDRAM
Video NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT
Hard Drive 250 GB
Optical DVD±RW (DL) / DVD-RAM
Display Type 15.4 in TFT active matrix

Let me know what you guys think!

I have the acer 5930g and its a very good laptop. It will definately run the games you want to play, and so far has been reliable for me after 3 months of solid use (and gaming!). The processor is a P7350 which is 2.0 ghz. However if blueray is more important, then go for the other acer/dell laptop.

Just curious, what is the battery life like on it?

battery life is up to 2.5 hours, but thats on power saver mode and screen brightness turned down. But as im usually near a plug socket at uni, it doesnt matter to me.

Any chance of a larger battery on the initial purchase? Have had the luxury of a 9cell battery with my current cheapy dell i get a good 4-5 hours usage, perfect for the sunday lie in.
