So I've been lurking these forums for a few weeks learning as much as I can and now I finally have the money to build my new system:D
It's mainly for gaming, and I'd like it to be as futureproof as possible.

I was thinking something along the lines of:

I haven't included a mobo as my knowledge is rather lacking in that area so that is where I need the most help (Also xfire/sli support would most probably be neccessary). My overall budget is around £750-£780, but preferably cheaper so I have more left over for games etc

As far as GPU is concerned it's hard to decide between the 4870 1gb and a 260, or possibly even a 4870 512mb (what would be the performance gains for a 4870 1gb over the 512mb version?) I'll be using my old dvd drive so no need for one, but is there anything else I'm missing as this is my first build?

Hi.

Your spec looks good but I would personally go for the Zotac GTX260-216. It's a bargain at £206.

You don't need a 750W PSU, go for a decent ~600W modular PSU instead.

Get a 640GB hard drive as it'll be quicker and it's not much more money for the extra storage.

Look at the P45 motherboards - Asus P5Q and Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P board(s), they are very good.
