So possibly after some new tyres for the motor, it's a 2006 Audi A3 sportback 2.0 TFSI, currently has Bridgestone Potenza RE050A on the rear and Continental Conti Sport Contact 5's on the front.

I don't know the age of the tyres and have what could either be a wheel bearing going or some awful tyre noise.

Looking for a good all round tyre (don't care on price)!

I used Goodyear Eagle F1A2s on my A3 and found them excellent.

I also had a rear wheel bearing go and it just made a droning noise initially only when cold then got louder.

Good idea, didn't think about that. I check my depth of my tread on the current conti's (think I got it mixed up, the Bridgestones are on the front) and make a decision.
I've read that Michelin Pilot Super Sports are good all round tyres also

Does the noise change depending on whether you are turning left or right? If so it's more likely to be a wheel bearing. My NSF bearing went last year, but it was fine as long as I continually turned left!!
