AMD isn't doing well in the CPU market, Intel have a better CPU at nearly every sector.

Also the PSU supplied with that case is cheap/very low budget/quality, never skimp on this item.

Hows this ?? I had to change that case as its rather ..... well poo don't be fooled by the included 500W PSU its just not worth running the risk of running a cheap PSU its the heart of the system.

I didn't included Windows 7 as you can use Windows 8 beta atm and spend the money on a much better GPU :P

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/549?vs=542

Went with the Intel i3 as the Intel chips are much better then anything AMD have atm, plus you could upgrade to an i5 or i7 later :)

Damn it Stulid beat me to it...

You could use windows 8 for now and then change to windows 7 in a few month when you have the dosh :) means more money is free to spend on better hardware.

Plus 80mm fans are normally noise as hell

Ok, had a word with my friend, and he has looked at the following, which he wants and *doesnt* want to change, he just needs mobo, cpu/fan and memory. he's going to use his copy windows 7 (retail) on this build.

Aerocool Strike-X Advance Midi Tower Case- Red/Black Stock Code: CA-017-AE
Corsair Builder Series CX 600W V2 '80 Plus' Power Supply Stock Code: CA-048-CS
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM Stock Code: HD-252-SE

Sub total inc Vat and free delivery: £270.90p Max budget: £550

This should do the trick :) could even run it on the stock cooler as the non K Intel processors are locked making overclocking a non event really.

Even the lowest of the Intel Dual Core i3 Range "2100" is a better chip for gaming on right now then one of AMD's Flagship "Black Edition" Quad Core.....

Plus with the AMD option the future upgrade path is very limited, with the Intel LGA 1155 you can upgrade as time goes on to a Intel Core i5/ i7 either sandybridge or Ivybridge :)

Just just for good measure here's the TOP AMD AM3+ CPU vs the TOP Intel LGA1155 CPU

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/434?vs=551

Opps AMD gets eaten alive ..........

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £269.99
1 x AMD Bulldozer FX-8 Eight Core 8150 Black Edition 3.60Ghz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail with H20 Cooler with FREE Dirt Showdown PC Game **£20 Cashback** £239.99
Total : £521.38 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Price wise .... for that performance gains I would be more then happy to shell out the extra dosh.

He really likes the AMD setup as he doesn't play that many games, and it will be for office work as well.

Intel will still be better, the i3 2100/2120 is far better than the FX 4100.

My spec got you a i5 3550, which is a lot better than any other CPU you could afford.

I know he may 'like' AMD but this won't be near as good as it could be.
