As standard my car has 185/55/R15's on and it is due for new tyres since they're almost on the limit, the problem is that they're expensive for what you get in this size and there isn't as much choice. I'm currently looking at some 195/50/R15's (Goodyear F1 for £35 a corner) but was wondering how much of a difference the 50 profile will make compared to the standard 55, I know the rim will take 195 so that's not a concern. I did search before I posted but I couldn't see anything that would tell me the speed difference between profiles, shouldn't be an issue hopefully.

Every tyre is different, some have stiff sidewalls some have cheese ones. 5mm less profile will make much less difference than the tyre change. Even if you had the same tyre and were changing 5mm less may just be a ever so slightly firmer ride, but you would do well to tell the difference.

Yeah what I've written is correct, and I was informed over at the Toyota owners club that 195 would fit on the standard 185 rim. Will double check before I buy though.

I have 195's on my rover rims which were originally 185.

£35 a pop. Sounds perfect. 55 to 50 you wont notice much different. Perhaps a little firmer and less roll.
