Hey,

Looking to replace the tyres on the Focus, the fronts have about 3mm left on them, and even though the rears are almost new (about 6-6.5mm), I just want to change the lot. They were you typical dealership tyres anyway so it would be nice to get a decent set on.

The size I'd need is 235/40/18, and I have no idea really what to go for. I'm just looking for decent grip and something that has a good wear rate. I don't ever drive in a spirited manner anymore lol :( so it's just commutes to and from work with the occasional family day out.

The Dunlop Sport Maxx RT look decent, have a good wear and grip rating, and have the added benefit of being quiet. But I think I've got too caught up in looking at those ratings when really it's real world experience that matters. And I know tyres are discussed often on here so figured this is a good place for me to ask! :)

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

This is the size I fit to my E39, I always just went for Eagle F1 Assymetric 2's. They are quite cheap in that size as well.

I'm happy with the same tyres on my ST - got them on both sets of wheels I run, the 19's are off the car now and have some tread left after 14.5k miles but I'll be replacing the set before they go back on the car later this year.

Car drives nice, they did feel a bit soft until I got used to them but all ok now and built in rim-protector too which some alternatives didn't have.

I went for Dunlop SportMaxx RT's on the Mondeo as they came highly rated for commuters due to low resistance and being quiet. However, they don't feel as grippy as the Goodyear F1 AS2's if you go into a corner a bit too fast.

So a good A-Road or Motorway tyre but only average on the twistys.

I replaced sport maxx's with eagle f1 on the back of the e46 and found a marked improvement. The Dunlop's were fine, but not quite good enough for the asking price imo
