Hey,
Its time to upgrade my PC to something abit newer. At the moment i've got the following spec:
Intel C2D 6600 @ 3.2
EVGA 680i skt 775
Nvidia 280 GTX
2GB OCZ DDR2
2x WD 150GB Raptor
Tagan 1100-BZ PSU
I've got £1000 maxium to spend with the intention of re-using the PSU and either the GPU or HDD's (dependent on which would provide the best upgrade).
I've been looking at i5 and i7 setups with me slightly leaning towards i7 as it seems to be alittle more future proof(?). It will be mainly used for gaming, photoshop etc and some 3D rendering.
This is the spec i'm thinking of at the moment with the CPU OC'd to 4.0GHz:
CPU: Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz £229.99
MOBO: Asus P6X58D-E (Socket 1366) DDR3 £169.98
RAM: Corsair XMS3 (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel £132.99
CPU Cooler: Corsair H50-1 CPU Cooler £66.99
SSD: Corsair Reactor 120GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive £199.99
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - OEM £84.99
Total £896.67
Instead of the SSD i'm tempted to get a ATI 5870 however i have a feeling it might be worth holding out to the next round of GPU towards the end of the year?.
Is there a i5 setup that would offer the same levels of performance for less? Any advice would be great
.
