My setup is in my sig. but I've been noticing a bit of slowdown in the more recent games so was looking for a stop-gap upgrade without having to change my mobo!

I was wondering what sort of gaming performance increase a change to, for example, an X2 3800 chip, would provide??

My mobo is a S939 MSI Neo 2 so would I also have to flash the BIOS to get any such upgrade to work??

Basically I'm looking for the best bang-for-buck CPU upgrade....

Any advice will be appreciated..

StevieP

ps. I've never been one for overclocking so the best performance out of the box is what I'm lookin for....unless someone wants to walk me through the finer points on it???? ;)

Depends entirely what games you're playing really as only new releases take advantage of multiple cores. It will however be a lot nicer for general use/multitasking.

There are about a million overclocking guides on the internet.

Not sure about the BIOS flashing... I should really seeing as I have the same mobo :p

if i were you would either oc current chip or get a cheap sec hand 3700 or 4000
as about 90percent games still single core and will be for at least 6months to a year.
