Never quite managed to get my head around what memory specs mean and what settings to use with different memory etc. I haven't tried very hard either but that's my exscuse!

Anyway, I bought mobo/cpu/ram bundle from OCUK earlier this year but as everyone knows RAM is pretty cheap at the mo so I don't see any harm in upgrading to 8 or 16GB (for playing BF3 etc)

What would people upgrade to if they had this?

2600k Sandybridge @ 4.6Ghz
ASUS P67 Sabertooth mobo

What RAM do you have now? I assume 4GB of....?

I also assume you have a 64bit operating system?

You can add 8GB to make it up to 12GB or replace it with a new 16GB.

Adding new RAM to the old will need both to run at the same speed, timings and voltage.

If you want to add 8GB then this as long as they're similar spec. to your old RAM and the heat spreaders won't get in the way of the CPU cooler:

Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £39.98.

As an alternative, or if you want to go up to 16GB, then this or 2 of them:

Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £42.98.

Or for 16GB:

Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit £79.99 and again with a warning about the height of the heat spreaders.

I'm not sure that 12 or 16GB is going to do much for gaming though as usually 4GB is enough and 8GB is plenty.

I keep being tempted by another 2x4 of G.Skill RipjawsX. Not the most brilliant clockers (they simply don't unless you get aggressive on voltage) but they're rock stable at stock volts and speeds. Haven't managed to BSOD my rig since I got them :)

I was tired lol :( tread! doh! I have 4GB at the moment and 64bit windows 7 so the extra memory isn't an issue.

Anyway, can this mobo still do dual channel with 4 sticks of memory? I'm guessing it probably can but just want to make sure :P

I just want to make sure the memory doesn't limit the overclock I have at the moment

Yes.

There's no way of knowing until you try it.

Filling all 4 RAM slots may affect the overclock but it doesn't seem too much of an issue with Sandy Bridge.
