I am thinking of upgrading from Vista 32bit to Vista 64Bit.

If for some reason I want to go back to 32bit, is it possible to downgrade or will I have to re-install from scratch?

Thanks in advance. :)

im also wondering, i currently have vista ultimate 32bit, can i just insert my vista 64bit cd and install within 32bit vista or do i have to start all over again?

(sorry but as its a similar question didnt think there was much point startin a new thread :))

It's a completely different architecture so you'll have to do a new install each time you want to change between 32-bit/64-bit vista. Treat them as different versions of Windows.

Am I right in thinking that you can Upgrade from 32bit to 64bit without doing a fresh install though?

Depends what licence you have, you may be able to on retail but you definatly won't be able to on OEM.

I would suggest that you do a fresh install if your swaping versions anyway otherwise you'll never have the best performance or reliability.

I too have retail so I can just upgrade which is nice to know :)

not afaik..
doesn't the 64bit version have a 64 bit installer - meaning that it won't run under 32bit?

I'm pretty sure you have to boot from the CD and install from scratch?

Correct. You need to do a fresh install in order for it to work. :)

Thats a bugger, oh well think I'll still give 64bit a go anyway.

Thanks again guys. :)
