HI all,

I've started commuting properly to and from work by bike (about 7 miles each way atm soon to be 11 each way)

and my mountain bike is surviving but the sizing and frame geometry that make it great for throwing about off road are beginning to annoy me for road riding, so if anyone has a suggestion for a relatively cheap Road bike ( Under £500 i was thinking, cheaper = better up to a point) that will do well for a heavy 6'2" / 6'3" chap then fire away.

I had seen the Giant OCR 2 as an example

There is so i may swing by tonight,

also looking at the following 2nd hand I've a fair bit of experience with my MTB so the prospect of a 2nd hand bike doesnt worry me but it is as follows

58cm Rossin Dedacciai SC61.10A Kinetic Energy Treatment - aluminium
frame with carbon forks black/yellow paint job. Mavic CXP 33 wheels. ITM Millenium stem and Chris King head set. Aluminium seat post and Classic Selle Italia saddle. Look pedals. Shimano Dura Ace 9 throughout with recently replaced derailleur, cassette and chain (Sram).

It will be used primarily for commuting but also for evening / weekend rides,

I have a Giant Team NRS for my off road fun and thats great but just putting slicks on it doesnt cut it for road riding as the frame is too small and riding in that sort of sitting down position hurts my knees, I've owned a racer in the past and want to get back to it.

the pro's of that bike above are undoubtedly the quality of componentry i wouldnt get Dura-Ace or a Dedacciai SC61.10A frame for my budget of circa £500,

Con's its not new and new things are nice ;) also although i trust the maintenance of anyone who buys that sort of kit it will be more worn, also it will look shabbier than a new bike,

the frame is about 4 years old and the componentry around 12 months

I would be riding it first to get a good idea of if it is right for me.

just thinking that for £500 i can get a new Specialized Allez Double with Sora throughout

or get the Rossin with Dura-Ace throughout.

i suppose i need to ride it but i think my decision is leaning towards the older tattier bike with the better components.

Yeah, have made my mind up and am looking to plump for a Giant OCR 2, and leave the 2nd hand bike.

the OCR is reasonable spec and as Giant are replacing the range can get an '06 bike with some decent discount.

should do me fine

I will be initially doing between 100 and 150 miles a week on it, possibly to increase based on how much recreational riding i do.
