Hey Ladies and GentleLadies, The wife has again ran out of Christmas ideas for me and has resulted in buying me some hardware.

I have never had such a problem trying to find the right card to buy!!

At the moment my RIG is:

Asus Striker Extreme 1 (775)
QX6850
8 GB RAM
300GB Raptor
Going to order an SSD too.
SLi 8800GTX's that seem to be faulty :(
BeQuiet 1200W PSU

SO, what should i be looking toward?

I think for now ill be taking a Single GPU and then i will be adding a second in a month or two when i look at a new board and CPU.

Options thus far,

6950
6970
570GTX
480GTX

Please help me dudes.

I will be upgrading my Board, CPU and Ram in the not so distant future, so the Xfire on this board isnt that much of a problem.

Is there any reason you would take a 570 of the 69xx?

I'd go for the 570 because performance and price is roughly equal to 6970 and you get physx and cuda. Admittedly those are minor considerations but the cards are very close.

Also my gut says Nvidia drivers are slightly better, I'm not interested in the fan boys chiming in here, it's my personal opinion take it or leave it :D

On the ATI side though the CF scaling of the 6970 is awesome.

You would have to be mad to go 480 unless your res is 2560x1600+, it's roughly equal to 570 in performance and price but 570 has better thermals and power

i forgot to add, its all watercooled, i will be looking to add the new card to the loop aswell (if a waterblock is avil)

Are you going to SLI the 570s?
For the same price I just purchased crossfire 6850s from here, I would think that would get better performance for the same price... but then of course you can't just add another card later on.

If the price of the 570s falls in the new year etc then i dont see why i wouldnt add a second or even a third 570, it all depends on my gaming really, i am not a hardcore gamer but i like a decent game play etc,
I am playing on a single screen at 1920 x 1200.

superclocked or standard card?
Just get the cheapest decent branded one. The EVGA superclocked is only at 797MHz...this level of overclock is doable yourself on any GTX570 you get anyway (even card with a duff core), so not really worth the £47 extra; if it was pre-overclocked at 900MHz, then it might worth paying that :D

You should check out the Powercxolor HD6970 review at OC3D, on the latest drivers these cards are starting to show their true potential. Frankly either th 6970 or 570 will keep0 you happy.

Guys,

I have never heard of these KFA2, are they any good?

I am going to order a 570 from OCUK, i dont know what brand to go for :(
