I need to replace the tyres on my Impreza WRX and think I've narrowed it down to either the Contisport Contact 3 or the F1 Asymmetric.

The car currently has F1 GSD3s on it, they've lasted pretty well (from what I hear about the wear rate normally!) but road noise is shocking with them.

So out of my 2 choices which would you go for and why?

Or are they much of a muchness and I should just go for whichever out of the 2 I can get cheapest?

The size is 215/45/17.

Forgot to say, 90% of my driving is just trawling up and down a dual carriageway.

I don't know what Conact 3's are like for noise, but I just had Contact 2's replaced on the Jag and chose something else as I found the C2's to be very noisy.

Funnily enough I had both those tyres and in that size on my 197. They both performed pretty similarly in both wear rates and noise level, with perhaps the CS3 edging the wear rate over the F1. I think I'd be inclined to go for the CS3 given the marginal price difference but you won't go wrong with either, they're both very similar tyres.

Yeah price difference isn't much, £172 for the F1s or £180 for the Contis, then take them somewhere for fitting.

Try asking on an Impreza forum, the answers you get here will be pretty worthless unless somebody who replies has the same car as you as comparing the same tyre across multiple vehicles will give many different results.

The Pirelli P7 Cinturato is worth considering if its in your size, it was a bit of a suprise winner of a 2010 AutoBuild test.

I just put Pirelli P7s on my girlfriends car and can confirm they are significantly quieter than CS3s that were on it before after 2k the wear rate also seems better than the CS3s which in turn were better than F1s. Grip wise it is hard to compare as it is a Zafira but not had any problems compared to the CS3s or the F1s before them. Also seems to have offered slightly better fuel consumption over the CS3s comparable to the improvemnt seen with these over F1s 0.5-1mpg.

I can say the Vredstein Ultrac Sessantas are getting good reviews on Scoobynet, and I have to agree, they are doing a great job on my car :-)

They do a great job on pretty much all cars I've seen people use them on and post about :p

They're so good I've used them twice over now! (coming from PS2s which were also very good but longer lasting).

VFM wise the Sessantas used to be great, however now the prices have gone up i don't think the small cost saving is worth it, last time i checked you can get Asymmetrics for a few quid more.

That per tyre?

I've just ordered 4 new SC'3 for my car, to be fitted on Wednesday.

Ev0 are these online prices? They seem extortionate.

Use your noggins, for the pair of course ;)

Those prices were supply only, had a quote from a local tyre place of £190 for 2 fitted so will likely be going with them, that's for the Goodyears.

Hope the road noise is a little better than the previous F1s currently on it!

Are they the vanilla P7 or the CINTURATO version? They're quite different tyres.
