Hi everyone,
Firstly apologies for yet another 'which 2gb' thread.. but I need your advice!

My big upgrade is nearly complete, I've gone for an AMD 64 3700+ and an MSI RD480 Neo2. I originally bought 1Gb of Corsair DDR400 / PC3200 RAM, however having tried out Vista, and the demo of Flight Simulator X I'm beginning to think that 1Gb won't be sufficient!

So.. what do you recommend?

Oh, and anyone want to buy a gig of Corsair? :)

Can't see much in stock at the moment if it helps, Corsair PT / C2PT / Value and OCUK and GeIL Value. I have 4 GB of C2PT (different machines) and it works great in both so far but it is the most expensive of those at about £15 on top, both Corsair and GeIL have lifetime warranties though :D Wouldn't bother with Corsair Value cos price is so close to the C2PT and afaik the PT is just Corsair Value with a heatspreader (talking about latencies not chips or overclocking potential).

I had some corsair a while ago, 2 x 1 gig XMS 3200C2PT, and I couldn't get on with it. It seemed "flaky" and wouldn't run as specified, could only get 2-3-3-5-1t out of it at stock, didn't overclock very well, and cost just over £180!
I sold it and got 2 x 1gig PQI generic pc3200 memory, did 2.5-3-3-7-1t up to 208mhz, at stock volts, and in anything else other than benching saw NO difference in system performance at all, and it cost £110.
IMHO, its not worth buying expensive memory for A64 based systems, 'cos they like to run with tight timings, therefore overclocking the memory could be considered a waste of time, and more importantly, money.
If it were me, I'd get some Geil value or ocuk 2 gig kits and put the money save towards a vidcard upgrade meself.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending which way you look at it), even Value brands (like Geil and OCUK value) are at £135, the Corsair PT is £132.72 and the C2PT £151.52 so with only £15 in it the rated 2-3-3-6 looks more worth the extra than it did. I'm guessing it is the popularity of DDR2 for AM2 and Core 2 Duo that is responsible for the DDR dissapearing and commanding a higher price.

You're probably right there mate, I've noticed the drop in price of high speed ram meself. When I was messing with timings etc, the was a far bigger price differential.
