My system so far:

Core 2 Duo E6600
2Gb GeIL Ultra Low Latency RAM
400gb SATA Drive
Asus P5W DH Deluxe MOBO

So, what graphics card would be best for my system. I usually play Half-Life 2 and CSS, Civilisation 4 and would like to play oblivion etc. I would like if this card was future proofed as much as possible as well.

I am looking at a X1950XTX or a 7900GTX. Doesn't have to be these cards though....Any opinions?

Thanks!

Without a budget, I'd have to guess you were thinking around the £200 mark, in which case I would go for:-

7900 GTO (a slightly 'lower clocked memory' version of the GTX, for sensible money, that overclocks very well, and runs really fast and quiet)

X1900XT (a really powerful card that has fallen in price substantially, and is much quicker than the newer X1950 Pro)

I wouldn't spend a lot more, as the DX10 cards will be out soon. Nvidias G80 chipset is out from 8th Nov (but supplies will be limited) and ATi's R600 cards will be out in Feb, when VISTA and DX 10 (and hopefully DX 10 games) will be out.

If you want to spend a lot more, then get two X1900XTs (Master and Slave versions):D

You're welcome. I'm planning a new system so am asking myself the very same question.

Also worth mentioning that the X1900XT should have the edge in image quality as it will run Oblivion well, with AA and HDR at the same time. NVidia can't do that.

If quietness is important, then the 7900GTO is substantially quieter than the stock X1900XT.

The choice is yours. :)
