Hi All

Its been five years since my last build (E8400) and its now starting to creak under the demands of HD video editing. Although I'm neither an overclocker nor a gamer this board has been a great source of info for me in the past.

It seems that as the years pass the choice gets wider. However, I get the impression that there isn't that much difference between some of the multitude of offerings from the likes of Asus and Gigabyte.

I'm looking for a solid, reliable board, ideally under £100 but willing to spend more on the right product. I've used Asus and Gigabyte boards currently and in the past with no problems.

The main resource hungry uses for the PC are video editing, image editing and a selection of VMs.

I'll be using a i7 3770. No overclocking required so don't see the need for the 'K' version.

As I'm not a gamer I'm not interested in SLI or Crossfire. I'll only be using a single GPU alongside the on-board HD4000 for my secondary display.

I'll be fitting the upgraded board into an Antec P182. This has the PSU at the bottom of the case, so any warnings regarding cabling issues with particular boards would also be helpful.

If you need any more info please let me know.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers
Jonny

Hi Jonny,

Seeing as you're not a overclocker or gamer you don't exactly need a motherboard primed with the most overclocking features or headroom, and therefore could avoid the more expensive ones currently out.

Personally, I'm a fan of Gigabyte boards, but something like the Asus P8Z77-V may suit you quite well. Your cable management will be mainly influenced by your Case and PSU and how well you can route the power cables. Saying that though, have a look at the layout of the Asus P8Z77-V and determine where the main power connections go and how that correlates with your case and its existing cable management features.

Hope this helps.
