I'm going to be digging my walls out in the lounge and hiding cable for 5.1 speakers. Can you recommend me some decent thin cable? Will need around 45-50 meters of it.

what speakers?
what are the lengths needed for the rears?

I used this when I upgraded to 7.1 for the two extra speakers, was recommended in a few posts by the bods over on AVF who had done various tests on it, 79 strand and 2.5mmsq.

I guess that would have been helpful. I have the quad l-ite 5.1 package at the moment but I'm contemplating the B and W MT50 package although id likely just have the satellites and choose my own sub.

Looks ideal....have you used this yourself?
I use something similar but a different brand. I am an installer by trade. Have just completed a job in Frodsham installing B&W M1 satellites to a Pioneer SC-LX receiver with that type of speaker cable. The client is very happy.

As long as the speaker cable is thick enough to carry the current without significant loss then you'll be fine. 150W through 10m of 1.55mmsq copper will drop about 7.5W. 150W through 10m of 2.5mmsq will drop about 5W. The difference isn't that significant, though Hypersevens recommendation is much cheaper. If you were running the sort of thin bell wire that comes free with cheap shelf Hi-Fi systems then the losses would be more like 30-40W. It's distance versus thickness mostly.

Difficult to say. I have no idea what you can reach means for you in £'s. :D

The Web is full of etail and retail merchants quoting prices. Just go have a look. There's also the used market via AV Forums. Have a look there too.

The LX58 is down to around £1000 now but always deals to be bad buying speakers too.

Any advice on the actual routing and installation of the cables are welcomed!

Good choice, I have the MT50. The M1 speakers are excellent but the subwoofer isn't up to the standard of the satellites, I'd definitely spend a little more to pair a really good tight sub.

It's not awful mind, nice for music but it struggles with rumbly movies.
