Hi, i have xp home 32bit at the moment and want to change to vista ,but as i have a p5w dh deluxe mb at the mo i will be replacing it sometime in the new year, which means i have to get a retail vista right ???. but do i use the upgrade or full retail, oh yeh i'll be installing home premium 64 bit , which is another question , how do i get 64 bit

thanx in advance.....

You should have the option to choose 32 or 64 bit when buying Vista upgrade or retail. if you have a qualifying product i.e. retail XP or 98 the go for the upgrade version but if you are upgrading from an OEM version of XP then the retail version is your best bet

Cheers . Iv'e been using oem xp on 3 motherboards no problems over 3 years,so supose full retail then and am not happy having to spent £135 + on a microsoft OS. But i know iv'e got 2 coppies of 98se somwere. What a rediculouse way to upgrade !!!!! without spending a fortune ( still £70 though).

god do i hate Microsoft sometimes:(

£135 for an operating system is quite reasonable I've always thought. Considering as you are buying the licence to install on any type of motherboard or upgrade you might have I don't get the problem?

The upgrade path is sort of a recognition and a thank you for staying with Microsoft so they provide a cheaper version - of course they need to make sure you are running a qualifying product.
