Sorry but I have to make one as I'm almost ready to go back to wires over this.

I have a US Robotics 9106 router that's always been fairly good to me. I went on holiday for 2 weeks a while back, came back and I've had nothing but trouble with it.

I've tried cycling the channels it uses but it's not making a difference. Today for example it hasn't dropped once on me. But yesterday it dropped at least 3 times.

Any one have any suggestions? My signal strength is usually full when these drops occur.

Have you tried pinging a certain website constantyl and see if a pattern occurs? ie a certain time it drops connection to the next?

Well it just dropped 20 mins ago and it had been fine all day. All I'd been doing was using remote desktop. Funny thing is I could almost feel it lagging before it happened.

edit:

Sorry I forgot to mention that if the connection drops my wireless shows as local connection only with no internet, but I can't login to my router, don't even get a logon prompt. If I cycle the channel my wireless card uses the connection comes straight bakc in and works perfectly.

I've had problems like this and it was a stupid fix.

Basically we use cable internet, so we had a cat5 going from the cable modem to the router, the net kept dropping out, we tried a new router to no avail, put old router back in and changed the cat5 cable going to the router, no fix. Put the new router in and a new cat5 and hey presto the net was fine and stopped dropping out!

So the router and cat5 managed to break..

Anything in the logs and any chance this random short term loss could tie in with someone nukeing something in the microwave ?

See I was thinking it could be something like this. It was fine all day then 4:20 it dropped out. Got me thinking it could be someone coming in from work and turning something on.

I'm trying a different channel now and seeing what happens.
