Sorry guys,
Yesterday our 8 year old TV broke and we need a new one.
It can't be bigger than 49 inch and yet I want decent HDR so I'm led to believe that edge lit won't do this justice.

I've always wanted bravia (been looking for years) but the kd49xh9505 is too much at £850.

The kd49xh9196 looks good at £150 less, but it's edge lit.
The kd49xh8505 also for the same price

I'm guessing what I'm looking for doesn't exist. So what matters next is, is edge lit really that bad? If so, I may as well drop down to a £500 set I guess if the extra cash for a decent panel is spoilt by edge lit anyway...

Urgh.

Got a perfect KD49XH9505 from the Sony refurb centre in March for £549. Had no usage on it so was probably a customer return but I've been very impressed with it. Only downside is a 1 year warranty.

The stock usually gets updated on Thursday mornings and there's an AV Forums thread with everyone's experience of the refurbs they've received.

It's completely random. I read it was meant to be around 9am but I think they were added around 11am and by the time I had one in my cart it had sold. Another one appeared half an hour later so it was either the same set being relisted or another.

For every refurb success like mine there's a horror story on AVForums so I would have a read through that thread before pulling the trigger. I thought it was worth the risk knowing I could just return it for free if it wasn't perfect/was damaged but there are a lot of sets that simply belong on a skip they've been packaged so bad and handled so poorly.

Sorry not to derail but that's the TV I'm looking at, why do you like it and do you have any consoles I'm thinking of getting a ps5 for it. Not too bothered it hasn't got hdmi 2.1.

Specific gaming draws...
Fully array led so less bloom and better contrast
Small input lag
10 bit rather than the 'fake' 8+2 FRC
100hz refresh

That's the main draws for me over the lower series. But I guess what I really need to hear is "as a casual gamer/TV watcher, you won't really notice these differences, so save money"

I have Xbox one X, btw, and sky Q.

. Honestly if you are looking at the edge lit I wouldn't buy a 'premium' one, plenty of good edge lits at the £500 end of the market in this size. So either stump up for the better TV or buy cheaper is what I would do.

That's what I needed to hear confirmed.. silly wasting money for no tangible benefit... I don't see the 9505 coming down in price much now so not worth holding out... I'll check the outlet tomorrow before pulling the trigger...

Arrived and set up..picture seems fine at initial look over and theres no physical damage. It wasn't packed with original box and came without batteries and had two mounting screws still in, so has been used.

Method 1 doesn't seem to work for me...
