Another Z87 Question

Hi all

Is there really much difference between the new ASUS z87 Hero and Extreme vi apart from pci slots and the oc controller and the higher price
 
more liquid nitrogen features. the oc panel thing, 2 more sata ports. another 4 pin power connection for the cpu, m2 socket plus nic card, faster memory support (up to 3ghz i think) it has worse sound by the looks of things too..

overall im in the same boat. dont want to wait much more for the extreme to come into stock but in the end for gaming the differences will be slight. But i also dont want to regret not paying the little bit extra as i'll have it for a while!

I don't like orange and black im afraid. same reason i didnt want the sniper. green?? bleh!

plus im still on my old trusty rampage 2 gene with the i7 920 its served me very well at silly voltages for a lot of years! so i like Asus.

The best Z87 board is the MVIE. No doubt!! If you have the funds get that board. In the lower priced category OC is better than Hero for sure. OC is a bargain, but not M6E.
 
did you just use two different acronyms for the same board? or am i going mental ;).

and im glad you say that because given your experience with the extreme i would be more than inclined to believe you :)

Its shocking tho 340 pounds for a mobo when the cpu's that go in it run that hot.

Even if you have awsome cooling the paste in the IHS has a limit to conductivity so unless your willing to delid the cpu's actually seem to be getting slower in terms of what OC'ers can push them to unless your 8pack with a steady stream of LN lol
 
for me its not just about the speed, its about the various other technologies i dont have with the 1366 platform. also im fairly sure in general they will still be faster, and use less power than MOST overclocked sandys and ivys.

i have the cpu already from ocuk, and im hoping its a good clocker, its actually quite nervewracking waiting to see what it can do!!
 
M6E is amazing!!! OC is great and a bargain!!! Depending on your available funds dictates your choice.
