Hey all. I just recieved my new case today along with most of the hardware, anyway I went to fit the motherboard and then i realised the stand ofs so i went to get allen keys but I can not get an allen key which fits. Can anyone help me in knowing the allen key used to remove stand offs for the Antec 1200?

Cant say ive ever heard of an allen key needing to be used for standoffs you should be able to move them just using your finger and thumb or if they are really in tight try gently using needle nose plyers

Agreed, every case I have ever used had standoffs that were easily screwed in and out by hand.

I don't think an allen key would work because the inner part should accept a screw. If you are really having trouble getting them out, a small spanner could work.

Thanks guys. This is my first full proper build and when i looked at the stand offs they seemed as if an allen key would fit into them. I was nervous in using pliers for when putting the motherboard on incase I flattened it.

Just a quick question; what is wrong with the standoffs in the antec 1200 you got?

Are they not setup in the correct (i'm guessing ATX) configuration for your motherboard, and require moving?

I should clarify that mounting the motherboard directly onto the case (with no standoffs) is a very bad idea, I'm sure you are not considering this, but I mention it just in case.

oh ,also they should already line up with the mobo holes but if there are any that dont then do remove them first as it could short the mobo.cant see this being the case tho as even cheapo £10 cases ive owned they all lined up ok.

I believe the correct tool for adding, moving and/or removing standoffs is a nut driver, although as already mentioned, you probably won't need to adjust them at all.

screw the standoffs into the case, place the mobo on top of the standoffs and screw some screws into the standoffs through the mobo, easy peasy, standoffs are made of brass so even if you dont have the allen key just use an adjustable spanner....piece of cake my friend;)
