Hi guys, recently got a GTX 480 and was considering adding an intake 120mm side fan to my Antec 1200 case to feed some cool air onto the gfx card;

couple of questions:

1 - Can anyone recommend a good fan for this purpose, (dont want one that sounds like a jet engine).

2 - How exactly do I connect the fan to the system in order to control the RPM of the fan.

Cheers!!!

First thing you have to work out is this. Will a fan even fit into your case. I was unable to get a fan into the case with any of the after-market coolers I had on my CPU. TT120, TRUE and a Pro Mega - in the end I just upped the exhaust fans top (200mm) and the two back fans a notch and that brought down my case temps perfectly.

But if you do get it to fit, then you can connect to any of the fan headers on your motherboard - there will be a corresponding active fan indicated in the bios and with what ever software your motherboard comes bundled with. Just use that to control the fan.

CPU cooler is a Corsair H50, so fitting the fan shouldnt be a problem.

So its just a case of fitting the fan and connecting the supplied cable to the correct header on the motherboard, still not exactly sure how I can control the RPM of the fan???

MY case (Antec 1200) has independant speed controls for all the case fans so I never looked at any fan controller software.

Just connect the new fan to an available mobo fan header, adjust the fan settings in the bios and it will take care of itself mate. I used to have the 1200 and I found that the extra fan helped a little in bringing down temps on my old gtx 275's
