the antec 1200 does not come woth a side intake fan so im looking at the Noctua NF-S12 120mm fan, would this be a good fan to use as the intake ?
what 120mm would you suggest would be a good one for this job ?

That's a good fan. They're about as good as the case fans that do come with the case when set to low.

do you have a side fan on yours cje ?
ive not got the case yet, here tomorrow, this noctua will fit no probs ?

Yes the Noctua is 120mm, so it will fit. I have switch one of the rear case fans and put a Noctua there. here is a picture of what I've done:

All three Noctua's are running at the same speed in Push/Pull/Pull.

Since the heatsink is large, the 2 Noctua's on the heatsink were causing turbulence because the Antec case fan couldnt cope with the air coming from the cpu heatsink.

I've placed the rear case fan in the side window.

BTW, ignore the crazy black fan secured by string, I am getting stability issues due to my NB overheating at the moment. Just trying to see if that actually is the problem.

Dont use the side fan as intake, tjharlow on youtube did quite a long test with lots of different variables and found that using the side fan as an exhaust on the antec 1200 is better than intake by a few degrees.

yeah i just watched tj's clip now

I have felt this turbulance between the antec fan and noctua fan and it has been bugging me for a while...
I thought it was just because they were so close, but it makes sense that its because the antec fan can't keep up!

So with a noctua there the turbulance is gone? How much of an effect did it have on case temps?

Bugger all, if I'm honest. About 1 degrees drop in cpu idle. According to realtemp.

But I didn't do a lot of testing befor and after.

Got the same kind of result from my testing of the side fan, something which you think would make such a big difference and in reality does very little - annoying isnt it.

Yeah, but having said that they don't move that much air compared to high performance fans. But I know now that all the warm air from the cpu is getting dumped outside the case, and not spilling back in due to different rpms and cfms from two different fans just an inch away from each other.

i have a noctua s12 on the side of mine but i had to mod it with adremel to get it to fit as my TRUE got in the way...makes hardly any difference,i would not bother if i was you:)

Ive always liked the standard antec fans :), i have the 1200, and just bought 2 extra standard antec fans like the ones that come with the case :)
