Hi

i ordered the other day a antec 1200 v3 case ive just realised it has no vent at the bottom of the case for the psu so i would have to have the psu fan facing up while this is not a problem do you think it would be better to have it facing down as there are rubber feet that makes the psu sit a few mm off the floor and i could drill a few holes in the bottom of the case and find a dust filter to go underneath or do you reckon having the psu fan facing up should be ok?

here is a pic of where the psu will sit

Erm, I thought all antecs (well good cases anyways) were bottom facing psu designs, thats just a poor design decision from Antec.

you could drill holes in if needed, but this is basically modding, so you will lose any warranty you have on the case straight away.

having the psu facing up ain't that much of a problem to be honest, ok it will be taking in slightly hotter air than it should do being facing down as it's the hotter air from in the case but you should be ok. its like have a top loaded psu where that takes air from inside the case.

its up to you, but you will void any warranty, but who gives a damn about warranty on cases these days when we are hacking them apart to add radiators and respraying the whole thing a new colour!

thats a good point about the warrnty but i presume as long as the case is fine when i get it i cant see what i would want to retuen it for anyway i guess i could try it facing up 1st then if im not happy try modding the case and put it facing down

yea for it facing down, just drill crap loads of wholes about half a centimetre apart to make sure you get loads of air passing through them.

just get a 120mm fan, draw around it, so you know what area you have to drill.

i have lost my affection for the antec 900/1200 series lately.

I think with the newer cases coming out i.e the awesome corsair 600t white and my bit fenix shinboi windowed case, the antecs are a getting on a bit.

the 1200/900 have been out for a good few years and my previous case was a TT V9 which was a copy of the 900 which had NO CABLE ROUTING what so ever.

They have added USB3.0 and cable routing in the latest revamps of the cases, but i think they are too old and don't look the part any more, but this is up to personal opinion. big blue led fans don't do me no more!

well i looked at all the diffrent cases and the antec 1200 was the one that caught my eye and im not that fussed if its years old as long as i like it thats all that matters to me lol do you know where i could get a dust filter from if i decide to drill some holes?

hehe - after owning a couple of antec cases i quickly learned that they are mostly badly designed and that they are overpriced when compared to other manufacturers - no thank you!

indeed, I am not a fan of them tbh. The 100 has no cable management, same with the 600 and that is very over priced, but quite good looking!

The Antec 200 is labelled as the ultimate gaming case, **** *** is it! it's an ugly piece of crap!

Antec cases (well cheap ones) are total crap!

what's wrong about having the fan facing up?

fan facing down brings in air from outside the case equalling in cooler air getting into the PSU to cooler is properly.

fan facing up brings in warmer/hotter air from inside the case equalling in the psu being warmer thanks to the heat from the other components.

there is the reason.

nothing that wrong with it, just better for the PSU to get cooler air from outside the case than using the heated air from inside the case. cooler air will be more efficient and give a longer lifespan of the hardware

its simple cooling!
