I currently have the following spec

Cooler Master Mystique 631
Q6600
8800GTS 512
4 gig corsair
HX620 Corsair PSU
Samsung F1 1TB
Seagat 500gig
other odds and sods

My case has always been fairy warm with only one intake and one output fan - the "system temp" sits around the 50C mark unless i point a fan at the southbrige and increase the fan speed of my graphics card - this results in the temp hovering around 40C at idle and 48ish at load (gaming) The problem with this is my PC sounds like a D*LL machine - quite noisy....

Although my case wasn't particularly cheap when i bought it I'm thinking of changing it - I have already spents 20+ pounds on 2 X spot-coolers and another 18 ish pounds on a PCI graphics card cooler - I'm considering on of the following

Antec P183 - expensive but i believe it is reasonably cool whilst being relatively quiet

Antec 300 - inexpensive - coolish but not as quiet.

Any views on which i should go for??

Many thanks

I do like that one - rather pricey me thinks.

The reason i went for the cooler master 631 originally is because it looks pretty good - I don't want anything styled by a star trek fan and teh antecs look okish

I have the P182, and it's obviously a lot like the P183. It's very cool (though I recommend changing the Antec Tri Cool fans and getting a fan controller too) but it's extraordinarily heavy and bulky, so if it needs to be moved around, get the 300. The other great thing about the P18x series is they're very quiet. Lots of soundproofing and a door on the case make it almost completely inaudible with my fans on low. Cable routing is better than most too, though I have to say I prefer the P182 looks much over the P183 (especially as mine is mirror finish!).

Take a look at some of the lian li cases, they're very smart.

I decided on the P183, then i noted the dimensions. My desk has a slot for a tower, including feet etc, of:

52.5mm(H) X 22mm(W) and 51mmm (deep)

Could someone please measure the height of their P183 case (including any feet on the case).

many thanks

I currently have a P183, the case is good, very very quiet. Great accoustic dampening on the panels.
The 300 has slightly superior cooling, but personally I think the P183 is the better choice.

At home, I'm currently running a Q9550 @ 3.4Ghz, and a GTX 295 with 3 HDD's and no heat isssues at all.

I had the predecessor of the P183, the P180, but have since moved to a Silverstone Raven RV02, just as quiet, superior cooling!

Looks as though the P183 is too large - is the 300 any good?? Realise it won't be the same quality but as long as it looks ok and can keep my components cool that will suffice.

hi Baldrick1001

i have measured my p 183 case and the size is h=51.5mm x w 20.40mm x d50.50 inc feet
so it should just fit but you mite have a little overhang at the front! mine is the same!
geek.

I have the 300.

PRO:
It's damn good value at the price. It has great airflow and I get temps of 44C idle to 79C stress test. (noctua U12 push-pull cooler)
The tricools are quite acceptable at low speed, and at medium they're a low hum. I've added a airfilter to the side vent, and a single Noctua to the front. I cannot hear any of the noctuas at all.
I like the undertstated looks...sort of 2001 monolith.

CON:
No removable mainboard tray.
Switches feel cheap.

If I had an unlimited budget I'd get the Coolermaster ATCS 840, but there's plenty of choice.
