Hi Ive just setup a new rig

e8500 - hand-picked e0 sick-slick-chip
asus p5q-e
antec 300
iceq 4850

the cpu is running way hot - on stock speed I cannot run prime 95 longer than like 2 mins as the cores go over 72 degrees ?? idles at 44 and 39 on the each core

I battled to get the intel reference cooler on for like 20 mins.. so maybe its not on correctly as when you push those bits down it feels like the mobo is going to snap, didnt think asus would make something so flimsy...

So either way I do want to get another cpu cooler and was wondering if anyone else has a similar setup, and if the TRUE fits inside this case on that mobo because even the reference cooler can only fit like with 1mm to spare as the mobo heatsinks are sooo close.

also does anyone have a better descripion about attaching the heatsinks to the mobo ? like turning those knobs and the like?

antec 300, great case ! looks simple clean lines etc.. have it well managed but I reccomend a modular power supply for sure..

as in other thread I have searched on - I know it can fit in an antec 300 - but what about on an asus p5q-e~?

Should fit fine, most mobos allow for large heatsinks nowadays.

The stock cooler should work fine on stock settings though. Try supporting the mobo from the back somehow while you push the pins down. Remember to twist them the right way as well.

TRUE should fit a p5qe no probs, has the same heatsink arrangement as the deluxe which im using with a TRUE without any problems.

Hmmm cool will get a new heatsink at end of month I think. Thanks chaps.

Definitely sure that heatsink is not on correctly as for pins - only the first one went down with a large click.

How ruined will the thermal paste be if I have been fighting this sink with gusto ? maybe Ill shove a little piece of wood between the mobo and the case to get sound leverage to stop bending. how much force is really required ? and the twist happens automatically when you press it down - or is it a push then a twist, or a push while twisting ?

Just push until it clicks, both the stock cooler and the ACF7pro went on really easily for me.

(I am more used to weilding spanners on cars than computers so probably didn't realise if I was putting lots of pressure on!)
