Antec 620 fan speed

After eventually getting a replacement cooler due to the original having a faulty pump, I have installed it with the stock fan plugged into the pump and the pump plugged into the cpu fan header as the instructions tell you to do.
According to the description of the cooler from Antec, the fan is meant to be voltage controlled. However, than fan seems to be running at 100% the whole time and it is very noisy. Have I got another faulty unit or is the voltage control thing just a lie?
If I have time, I'll plug the fan into a separate fan header and reduce the fan speed in the bios, hopefully this won't increase temps too much.
Finally, I'll probably change the fan eventually anyway, so what's the best fan out there that is a good compromise between noise and airflow? I've seen that a lot of people use the gentle scythe typhoons and are the 1850rpms the most popular?

Thanks,

James

Don't know much about fans, but the pump needs to be on a non-controlled fan header (i.e.100%) and then the fan can be in the CPU fan header and be controlled. The pump needs full power.

Correct, it runs at 100%. Instead, connect pump to molex or something. Connect fan directly to cpu fan header.

Antec fan is 3 pin but can be voltage controlled by motherboard.

The fan is only 2 pin, but that just means I can't see the rpm. Surely plugging the fan into the cpu fan header would still make it run at 100% the whole time as the voltage control is done via pwm?

Voltage control is an alternative to PWM, for all motherboards Ive come across.

4 pin = PWM.

I've plugged the fan into a normal fan header for the time being and set it to run at 50% in the bios. So it's nice and quiet now and idle temps are around 35C.
However, the grinding noise from the pump, which was the reason my previous cooler was returned, has just started in this one as well, but it seems to come and go.

the pump must run at 100%

i have the same cooler, i have the pump connected directly to the psu and have 2 fans connected to the cpu headers on the board (cpu and cpu opt)

so the pump is 100% all the time and the fans can have profiles

grinding noise? all pumps have a buzzing sound if thats what you mean
