Hi

Just got my new system today and just getting it all up and running now. I was wondering how to get the large fan at the top of the case working (its an Antec 900 case). The fan at the moment is just "pulsing" moving about 5 degrees rotation then going back if that makes sense.

Thanks

Tried that but no luck. Is it normal to have to do that?
I've also switched the controller switch through low, medium and high settings. Low and medium don't even move the fan. High setting gets the fan doing the "pulse" movement thing.

Well the thing is a while ago Antec develpoed a fault with some of their case fans for the 900 range. When i got my 900 case it came with three spare fans just incase any of them broke.
Take it yours never came with any?
i would to OC about this cos im sure they'll no about the fault, and this all depends on whether you actually bought it from them or not lol.

Yes it is a pre-built system from OcUK. So am I correct to assume that the large top fan should be spinning straight out of the box i.e. there is no setting somewhere or switch I need to press to get it spinning?

Will speak to OcUK if it sees like it is broke.

And no I do not have spare fans. I have two at the front, one at the back and a large one at the top.

Thanks for the replies

yerr it should be spinning straight out the box, you might wanna check to see if the fan peripheral is properly plugged in. If that does work then defo get in touch with them. All my fans are brilliant.

Well I suspect it is plugged in as there is definitely some voltage getting to the fan as it is "pulsing" when the switch is set to high. I have tried to trace the wiring but one end is concealed by the upper part of the case and the other way is hidden in all the cable management which I do not want to disturb as I've just got it today and it looks like it is going to be taken back.

Don't know what the solution is yet though.

I think there's only one solution and that is to get the fan replaced. If you contact antec I'm sure they will send you a replacement fan or contact OcUK.

Hi Dr.Sarf

I take it from your sig / profile you work at OcUK?

Well I'm pretty certain that that it is definitely plugged in as the fan is in fact trying to move as per the video on youtube that I linked in one of the above posts. Unfortunately though I'm not in a position to physically verify this or disconnect / reconnect the plug as the fan side of the wiring is hidden by the top part of the case (will require a few screws removing) and the other side of the wiring is secured together with the rest of the wiring by cable ties. As it is looking likely to need a replacement I do not want to do anything that may invalidate the warranty. By the fact that the fan is trying to move shouldn't this mean it is connected correctly or can the plugs be inserted the wrong way round (reverse polarity) or some pins / connection missing??

Will give OcUK a call on Monday as I need to arrange for me to drop it off / collect rather than courier due to needing as much access to the PC as possible for work.

Assuming the fan needs to be replaced is this a simple thing to do or is the fan integrated into the top of the case? My old PC has now moved on so cant afford to be without this for too long. Also noted that the overclock is slightly lower than what was advertised so guess this can be addressed at the same time?

Thanks

Yes - I'm an OcUK employee.

If the fan is stuttering then it will be connected and its a classic Antec fan problem; you've just been unlucky. You can either call or drop a webnote, though calling will most likely be quicker. Just reference me on the phone call which should save you having to explain everything in detail to the support technician - just ask for an RMA and arrange a pickup date/time.

The whole top of the case will be replaced with a working unit.

When i got my 900 case it came with three spare fans just incase any of them broke.
Take it yours never came with any?

Is this confirmed as the norm?

If so, Have OCUK kept hold of these fans for this pre-built case, instead of supplying them to the customer?

well i got my case seperate i didnt get a pre build. But ive heard that one person for defo Mike1983 didnt get any spare case fans. there is another person who has had problem with antec top fan (pulsing) but im not sure if they have been provided with three spares like me.
I would have though OCuk would make sure everything on the PC works before sending it off so they dopnt have to send any spare fans.

Thanks, I will call on Monday.

After I was researching this I found a few other sites that confirmed Antec supply 3x fans as standard due to the common problem but no I did not receive any spares in my build. Regardless I asume these spares would be the smaller 120mm items rather than the 200mm top mounted fan. Even so it would have ben nice if they were supplied to connct one of these spares to the "optional" side mount next to the perspex window.

So is there any way of easily changing the fan speed from low / medium / high or do I need to change each individual fan using the switches inside the case i.e. having to open up the case. I take it I will need a fan controller to make things easier?

Thanks
