Ok

Booted up this morning in my new (only been used less than a couple of weeks) Antec 902 and it turned into a chimney .... smoke flying out top of BigBoy fan. Powered everything down straight away and quickly removed side panels to reveal (rear panel) two melted cables ... the single rear 120mm fan and the bigboy roof 200mm fan almost stripped clear of burnt plastic covering. Anyone ever had any problems like this before ? These 2 cables where plugged together on a single molex from a Coolermaster silent pro M 1000 watt psu the 2 front 120 mm fans where plugged together on same molex cable diff. plug .... surley this couldnt have overloaded esp with all fans on low setting.

Nasty! Reminds me of last Christmas Eve, around midnight, when i was playing on my desktop replacement laptop, and suddenly burnt plastic - then the laptop shut down.
The graphic card had overheated badly, and taken out the motherboard too. Fortunately it was two weeks inside a 3 year warranty.

With luck just shorted the fans, probably the wire trapped somewhere and the insulation wore through.

Hopefully all else ok

Good luck

you were lucky that is was the fans not something more expensive!

.. tell me about as I was gonna save this for my new i7 build (which I will be doing now) that said everything has been tested that was in the case and all is running fine ...

Oh and for anyone that didnt know the BigBoy fan comes out the top of the case .... the top frame (black plastic grill cover etc) lifts off once you remove the screws inside.
