Hey all

Does anyone know if the fans can be controlled via the Bios. Or do I have to use the chill control software? Any info appreciated.

Chris

It should be possible via the bios using PWM ( PMW?) provided your fan has a four pin connection.

I am using a Corsair H60 but with a Apache fan - fan plugged into the cpu fan fixing on the motherboard after which I adjusted the control in the Bios so that it ramps up speed as and when required.

Keeps things both cool & quiet.:)

Am using an Asus Sabertooth board and I believe that yours will have the same abilities.

n.b. I cannot comment wether the chill software you refer to is better or worse than going via Bios control - something you will have to read up for youself as I have never used such.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I think the CPU fan connector for the 920 is 3 Pin. I have it connected to the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard. is there a way around this to make it 4 pin?
What should I do to adjust?

As I have never owned this cooler I can only go upon the reviews I've read and my experience with the Coolit Eco and Corsair H60 sealed unit water coolers that I've owned. (Am currently running the Corsair).

Basically, if I read the imfo. correctly, the Antec comes with 2 x 4 pin PWM fans , which plug into the pump housing with , then two cables running from the pump housing ; the 1st being to provide power (partic. for the pump) which looks to be a 3 pin connector and the second is a usb(?) connector to plug into a motherboard usb header.

All having been connected and the software installed you can control the fans (and pump?) via windows . Again if I read correctly , the software provides 2 built in modes ,Extreme or Silent and the third 'custom' which is , of course, much more hands on. - If you are using this software then I believe that it is extremely unlikely/impossible that you can control the fans through the motherboard Bios!

Both the Cool-it and the corsair work in a different way i.e.:-
1. The power to the pump is seperate from the fan(s). - a 3 pin header only. (Designed I believe to be on at all times)
2. The fan(s) being powered either by a 3 pin fan header (not, I think, PWM control) or via the cpu fan 4 pin header (which often/usually will allow for PWM control via he bios/board ; assuming that the fans are 4 pin).

Currently my radiator fan ( it used to be fans but I found that it did not cool that much better , if at all, than a single fan ) is a 4 pin plugged into the cpu fan header and with speeds controlled via PWM/ settings in the bios. (when running 2 fans I had to buy a splitter to fit them on the cpu fan header).

Overall I would have hoped that the Antec software would have more options than the Bios and as it's through windows it should be a lot easier to adjust on the fly - BUT if you plug the fan(s) into the cpu fan header on the motherboard they should work. (although it is possibly the case that the Antec DEMANDS that they be plugged into the pump housing connector for it to work at all- be careful!).

Hope the above is of use - Sorry if I've been a bit long winded :o

The wires leading to/from the pump block comprise :-

a) two female 4 pin connectors - the fans which you have fitted to the cooler to be plugged in here.

b) a usb connector - to be plugged in to a motherboard usb header ; and

c) a 3 pin power connector - this gives both pump and fans the power - double check your manual but I believe that this needs to be plugged into a standard fan power point and NOT the cpu fan header.

You should not need any new fans as the unit comes with 2 four pin fans.

Upon re-reading your initial post , I am not sure where you are in the instalation procedure - can you advise?
Would not recomend any changes until you have installed in accordance with manufacturers instructions and you have had a play with the included software - from what I have read this should cover exactly what your wanting to do ??

I have had my 920 installed for quite some time. It worked perfectly if I use chill control to control the fan speeds. I have always had the power connected to CPU_FAN and it worked. But, I want to be able to control the fans via the BIOS. I have built a dual boot hackintosh with OSX and windows 7. Under windows 7, i can use chill control, but not under osx. So i thought it was better to have BIOS control the speed of the fans and when they begin to ramp. I have noticed the fan on the side ramps up and down when the CPU is being used. When I tried connecting the 920's fan power connector to that Cpu header, it didnt work. There must be another fan header I have to connect to so that I can use the BIOS to control the ramp speed etc for the kuhler 920.

Reading the Custom PC review imformed me that the fans are controlled via the usb connector and not the power connector as I thought.

If you plug one of the (4 pin) fans into the cpu han header rather than into the pump housing connection does it spin?

To control the fans via the bios you would need to plug the fans into the cpu-fan header AND you would need power to be provided ,seperately, to the pump. (which may or may not be possible with the Antec)

My set up is pump plugged into a 3 pin fan header + the fan itself plugged into the cpu-header.

You need a splitter - I got one from ocuk , made by Akasa.
Just had a quick check but could not find any, now - probably worth a call to the shop, just in case my eyesight is failing me!

Not a 3 pin fan splitter a 4 pin PWM fan splitter.

n.b. before you buy try with just one fan via cpu -header and the 3 pin from the pump to a standard 3 pin fan header. (You might also double check with Antec that powering the fans and pump seperately will not cause issues other than not being able to run the chilli software!)
