I have this Hiper HTPC Case

25st.jpg

Last week it stopped booting and after lots of testing, i opened up the PSU to discover various components had leaked... strangely its still powers up.

Anyway, i'd like to get a new case, i wanted to get the Antec Fusion as it has 2 x 3.5" slots, but its too deep and wide for the tv stand.

So now im considering the Micro Fusion but it says there is only 1 x 3.5" slot.

Looking at this picture:

Where the hard drive goes in the whole behind the screen it looks like there is plenty of space for more than one drive.

What is that hole for, does something go in it? As far as i can figure, the hard drive actually goes underneath the top plate showing in the picture doesn't it?

Cheers

Just got one of these (£69.99 new!) and the hard drive sits inside that area behind the screen where the black circles (vibration damping pads) are located. As far as I can see, there's no reason why you couldn't mod it (perhaps bungee) to fit two drives in there. Cooling is ample. It's a really really nice case, you won't regret getting one, even if it is slightly bigger.

Only annoying niggle is that the screen has to be removed to get the hard drive caddy out.

EDIT: In fact, you might be able to get another HDD caddy, looks like such a thing may exist. You can contact antec for confirmation, they're usually very helpful indeed.

Nice one...

Yeah i read in a review that you had to take the display off to get the hdd in. At least you don't have to take the case apart to get the mobo in, and remove the usb ports from the front to plug the power cable into the mobo like i had to in the Hiper  Thats such a fiddly cramped fiddly case but although its size i was able to fit a 3.5" and a 2.5" hdd so looking at the Micro Fusion i found to hard to believe you only fit one hdd in it.

One other thing, i read somewhere that you can turn it on and off with the remote (might have been the normal Fusion case). If this is the case , does it turn off completely or just go into sleep/standby like with the media centre control?

May order one tomorrow, thanks ;)

Hmmmm just noticed the remote doesnt have a stop button.... how do u stop media lol?!

Don't use the small remote tbh, I use a microsoft MCE remote - it works fully with the built in IR sensor, and you can choose which buttons you want to use to either shut down fully and turn on from being completely off, or to set it to sleep and wake it up. So basically any compatible remote can do that.

I'd say just try and bungee mod one in or check if antec do an additional HDD cage. Personally I swapped two drives for a single 1TB drive that is now partitioned into OS (50GB) and data (950GB).

Good luck!

EDIT: Also worth noting that the case and PSU include Antecs usual 3 year warranty for high end cases.

MCE remote works with the sensor :D cool

In the tiny Hiper case i had a 1TB drive and a 320gb 2.5" stuck to the top of it, both of which are full. I was hoping to add at least another 1TB drive to it.

Thanks for your replies, i think i will buy one of these the end of next week as ive spent the last 2 weeks building and repairing pc and im rather sick of it :p

Then ill figure out what to do when i get it ;)

Cheers

Well .... this comes with some amazingly crap instructions :p

Could anyone shed some light on what these black plastic Lego type blocks are for? There is somewhere i can connect them to but i didn't figure out their use

Spent quite a long time building this, probably the longest build for me, trying to make the cables neat inside, found it surprisingly fiddly. The mobo power connector is directly below the optical drive bay which wasn't very helpful!

Wasn't very impressed by the iMon software... firstly when i tried to use the MCE remote in the Media Center i couldn't use the volume button as it wasn't configured, and when i tried to add it, i was told i couldn't  On top of that, when ever i tried to use the volume it would play this really annoying noise .... took me about hour to find the option that said 'play a bloody awful noise when a mce remote is detected' :(

In the end i had to set the options to use the iMon remote then use the sensor which came with the MCE remote and everything works fine :D

Nice case though, psu is quite a lot noisier than than Hiper one though but i love the LCD display, especially now as it turns off with the when you shut it down ;)

The 'lego blocks' can be attached inside the case near the CPU area to change the airflow direction if you wish. I found mine was fine without as I have no gfx card installed, and temps are nice and low on an Alpenfohn Panorama low profile cooler.

The imon software is a bit buggy sometimes, and the IR sensor isn't as good as the one that comes with the MCE remote, but it works fine for me when sat in front of the unit. I suggest updating to the latest version of imon, it's a lot better and it should come up and tell you there's an update. The screen is very nice when it's working right. I disabled that annoying noise too!

The build was quite easy for me, then only sticking point was a SATA connector on my rather long LG BD-ROM/DVD-RW drive interfering with the memory and CPU cooler. A right-angled connector is a must.

PSU is silent as far as I can tell, just one of the fans (next to the HDD) seems louder than the others, I think it might have a problem, though I'm sure Antec can send out a replacement fairly easily.

Hello again,

The CPU keeps overheating and shutting it down when playing HD media. The heatsink im currently using is Hyper's very low profile one... and its pretty useless!

Does anyone know whether a Zalman CNPS8700-LED CPU Cooler fit in this case?
Also, is it possible to disable the LED? I would get the non LED one, but it's out of stock!

Hmm i've just read that it has quite a loud fan, could someone recommend a quiet / silent cooler for this case?

Cheers

I'm using an Alpenfohn Panorama in mine. Keeps the CPU really cool, but it's only an Athlon X2 4200+.

Height wise, that just about fits, and I think it's 66 mm. Wouldn't want to go more than a few mm more IIRC. It almost lines up with the intake holes on top, but not 100%. If it did 100% I wouldn't worry about a few more mm.

It's as silent as you'll get unless you go passive, which is probably not recommended if you're already having issues.

Mmm, that looks like a squashed version of my Noctua NH-C12P :)

I almost bought the Zalman CNPS8000, I'll have a look at this Panorama cooler ... just noticed you already mention using this cooler on a previous post :p

I think mine has a 4200+ as well and was considering putting in a 5600+ which found on an old mobo recently. I'd like using Media Browser but the 4200 seems to struggle with it.

The heat of the cpu not actually as bad now... see i built this media centre for my folks - my dad loves it, but he would leave it on all the time and my mum would moan about the noise of the fans, so i disconnected them... which i had forgotten about  But now he's finally learnt how to shut it down, it doesnt matter if the fans making some noise. But it's still running hotter than i would like.

Cheers

Gigabyte MA78GM-2SH

Should be able to handle HD no problems, im sure its the cooler, the one that is in there at the moment is the HIPERFLOW HFC-30820-C1. The fan on it is really poor and when i used it in the Hiper case sometimes it would take about 10 seconds to spin up after turning it on

One thing i noticed though, but i don't know whether its just a bug in Speedfan. The IT8718F chip sensor on the motherboard is showing an a rather high temperature - this isn't my picture, just found it on google, but im getting similar temps:

the 780g is based on the hd 2400 series and as such although it can decode hd stuff it is not as efficient as the newer cores and the cpu usage could be as high as 50% which is where your heat issue is probably coming from.

see here for a review of what i mean - http://techreport.com/articles.x/14261/9

a new heatsink will help control the heat being produced but a low profile hd 4350 or similar may stop the heat being produced in the first place.

Can you be more descriptive? I have almost an identical setup to you and am not experiencing this problem. Is the cooler touching the top of the case?
