Antec modular cable - compatible with modXstream?

Hey guys

I've got my 460 on the way tomorrow to replace a dead 8800, but I've just realised that I've lost my second PCIe cable, and the 460 needs 2.

I've got a couple of PCIe cables from an antec PSU that someone sent me in a bag of "here's some junk I don't need" from the MM, but I know that the SATA cables didn't work and don't really want to risk powering the PC up with dodgy cabling... does anyone know if the 6pin PCIe cables should be/are compatible?

I'm trying to source a new OCZ one, but it's going to take an extra day at least, and probably until after the weekend :(

Thanks

There is no reason why not, as long as it is the correct connection into the PSU. At the end of the day- they are just wires, nothing special about them unless there is a strange connection to the PSU.

If the connectors are the same I suppose you could plug in and use a multimeter to probe the cables to ensure they are providing power the correct way. Provided the Yellow shows +12v on each then there's not much that can go wrong.

You could always visually compare the two cables, if your existing OCZ lead is modular and not hard wired.

PCI-E cables are only a row of 12v and a row of Grounds.

The antec's have a row each of 3 yellow and 3 black at one end, at the other it's black yellow black on the side with the clip and just black in the middle (surrounded by two emptyies) at the other.

Does this sound about right? I'll compare to my OCZ cable in a moment, but it's hard to trace the individual wires.

It's a 2xMolex to 6pin - but I don't have any of the original cables, or can't find them anyway, and have no molex cables connected up, so I've nothing to convert :(

Edit: I found a spare molex cable, and did in fact already have on installed running some fans since I couldn't be arsed switching the Antec TriCool's over when I got my fan controller (since they have their own fan controls)

I've now conscripted the fan's molex for use with my nice shiny new GPU and installed the other, and promoted the TriCool's to the fan controller. I'll still try to find my PCIe cable, since I'd rather have it running on two PCIe cables rather than a combination of PCIe and SATA, but it's working :)

Thanks

It is not a dedicated fan molex is it?as i think that the voltage can vary with the psu load :)I.e. to make the fans slower at cooler temps the voltage to that fan molex is reduced

Not as far as I know, it's just a molex directly off the PSU.

Only problem so far is some cap squeal when using F@H, so I'll have to just run that when I'm out.
