Antec Nine Hundred First impressions

After deliberating for a way too long, asking questions here on what case I should get, and just ending up getting more confused, I bought an Antec Nine Hundred.

First impressions? I'm not impressed.

When I'm building a PC with a case I've never used before I like to stumble across a feature that's handy and makes whacking in the components easier. A removable mobo tray, good cable management, space, etc. This case has neither. It's quite small and although at the moment I've just connected up all the cables to see if the damn thing switches on (I hate that first scary moment!) I just know when I come to open her up and tidy the cables, I am going to struggle.

With the fans on low I can still hear them. a lot. With all four cranked up to "High" is just way too noisey. Yes, the airflow I think is very good, but I just find the noise too loud. I will have to replace the fans with others. What are generally the quietest out there - Akasa Ambers?

My Tuniq Tower almost touches the side panel. My 7800GTX fits fine, but it's not so far away from my HDD rack to make me happy.

And what's with the way you fit the hard disks? Yes, the bays slide out the front, which is a nice touch, but wait till you attach the hard disks. No rubber bands this time, you're forced to use screws, and the holes they fit in are difficult to actually get to. This is a major design flaw. I'm lucky in that I have a "magic" screwdriver that grips screws but without that I just would have got frustrated.

The bottom line is, I just don't like this case. It wasn't an easy case to work with and I got no satisfaction from doing so and for me that's what it's all about. It may look the part from the outside but the insides are where it should count.

I should have gone with an Akasa Eclipse.

:(

Agreed....its a decent case...but very normal in its make-up. The insides, apart from a few good features, is just like a case you could get for £20. For the enthusiast with loads of big componets...its not exactly ideal. In saying that I did like mine...especially the look...but I did change it for an eclipse:rolleyes:

I think if you re-read that thread you'll see that I got a VERY varied list of cases. There certainly didn't seem to be a general concensus of "buy an Eclipse", otherwise my choice would have been easier.

Lian-Li, Akasa, Silverstone and the Antec were all mentioned. Please show me the bit in the thread where it was agreed that the Akasa Eclipse was the best choice for me.

about 6 out 7 people recommended the eclipse over the 900 or they didn't like the antec 900 case....

Akasa eclipse great case to work in :)

The antec 900 has a lot of case fans but because it is made of steel it wont match the cooling of the eclipse ;)

ive ben looking for weeks. wish i never got the antec 900 if i was staying aircooled id stick with it as the airflow regardles what other people say is awsome inside the case is like a wind tunnel but due to going watercooling i am now 90% on getting a mozart..... if you want a mm case there is a shop that stocks them in the uk now

It's a piece of junk. It's cramped, has a very poor layout and the cooling is shocking considering the supposed fan capacity. As for features, it has a few LED fans and an iPod tray. More useful than the removeable motherboard tray on the Eclipse? Doubtful.

This case is used by the majority of OCUK's pre-built systems. I wonder if they are having difficulty assembling them?

I'd have thought the case would be difficult to keep clean with all the grill-work?
