Antec P180, a bit noisier than I expected?

Hi everyone ;) took the plunge and built a new Asus P5B, Core Duo based PC in the wonderful Antec P180 case.

Its all good up to now in terms of performance, however, for me, the case is a bit noisier than I expected?

I was after a quiet PC and hoped this case along with the Arctic Freezer 7 processor fan and Antec EarthWatts power supply would be pretty cool and quiet. But the 3 built in case fans, on the low setting, still seem a bit loud??

Can anyone recommended some tips to get a bit more silence out of the case? I really do not think I need all 3 fans running so may simply unplug a couple of them.

Also, are there any replacement fans on the market that may help??
 
You could switch out the stock fans that came with the P180 and replace them with Noctua S12's which are super quiet. Yate Loon 120mm are also fairly quiet and great performers. Can you establish exactly were most of the noise is coming from? Or is it just a combination of components (CPU, GPU etc)?

Its the case fans, I think anyway. Power is maybe a little loud but nothing to worry about.

My GPU is fanless, another part of my noiseless idea. The CPU Fan is tad noisy but its well inside the case and pretty well shielded.

Thanks for the fan advice. I will look them up ;)
 
i have the p180, and i have removed the top fan, bottom fan, updated the rear to a amber fan, now the most noise i can hear is from the Palit 7900GS 512mb graphics card i got from here, and a tiny bit of noise from the hdds

next is to get a passive cooler for the card, and thats it!


( i run Q-fan, have a asus a8n sli-p , freezer pro 64, psu is Tagan 480 u22)
 
I have the P180, and the best way to quieten things down is swap the case fans for Nexus or Yate Loon 120mm fans. I have them at full pelt, and even then they are quieter than the stock ones.

The best fans from OCuk would be the Scythe or Noctua ones (I've heard).

How are those Yates you got the other week mate? I haven't had mine setup yet, they seem ok?

They can do... Panel resonance (not an issue on the P180), fans provided as stock (P180's stock fans are poor for silence).

Replace the stock fans.
You DONT need a fan in the bottom PSU section if you dont put HDD's down there.


Sam C (P180 3am special, ie switch on at 3am and have to check the LED to see its on.)
 
I have the p180. The stock fans set to low are Ok to me. But my PSU(Coolermaster ExtremePower 650W) and CPU fan( Coolermaster Hyper TX) both sound like hell. I m thinking to get rid of them at first.
 
the only thing i hear in my case is the 2 hdd! and thats just a general whine!
 
I have had my p180 for a little while and my bottom fan burnt out the other week and I get an annoying rattle from the rear fan as if thats about to go too. No matter how I tighten the screws its defo the fan. Just ordered a set of yates following the advise on here, hopefully I have more luck with these.
 
Must admit, I was happy with my Tricools,and I am very noise averse.

You can hook them up to a fan controller via a molex 4 pin to 3 pin converter cable. I've tested this and it works. Make the controller a Sunbeam Rheobus, and you can turn the fans down below 7v (which I believe is approx what the Antec Tricools are rated at when on low). You'll get a centigrade or 2 more heat this way but the fans will be pretty much inaudible.
